Mount Kenya
Africa's second-highest peak, with forested foothills, moorland trekking routes and glacial summit views.
Why visit Mount Kenya?
Mount Kenya is an extinct volcano and Africa's second-highest mountain, rising through dense montane forest, bamboo zones and open moorland before reaching its jagged, partly glaciated peaks. Point Lenana, its highest trekking point, can be reached without technical climbing equipment over several days via routes such as Sirimon and Chogoria, making it accessible to reasonably fit travellers rather than only technical mountaineers. Along the way, trekkers pass giant lobelia and groundsel plants unique to East African mountains, with the chance of spotting elephant, buffalo and colobus monkey in the lower forest zones.
