Amboseli and Tsavo East both offer easy, rewarding game viewing without the longer transfer distances of a Mara-based circuit, and the Diani Beach stay at the end gives children and parents alike a proper holiday break after the safari days.
Departing Nairobi mid-morning, the drive to Amboseli takes around four hours with a stop along the way for drinks and a stretch. After checking in and lunch at your family-friendly lodge, an afternoon game drive introduces you to the park's swamp edges, where elephant, buffalo and a wide variety of birdlife gather even in the dry season.
A full day exploring Amboseli at a relaxed pace, with a mid-morning break back at the lodge for children to rest by the pool before an afternoon drive. Guides keep sightings close and unhurried, focusing on elephant family groups, the swamp birdlife and, weather permitting, classic photographs of wildlife against Mount Kilimanjaro.
A shorter, scenic drive through changing landscape brings you into Tsavo East by early afternoon. After lunch at your lodge, an introductory game drive along the Galana River looks for Tsavo's famous red-dusted elephants, along with giraffe, buffalo and basking crocodile.
A full day inside one of Kenya's largest parks, with game drives paced around the family's energy levels and an option to return to the lodge at midday. The open plains make for long sightings rather than quick glimpses, giving children time to properly watch elephant herds, giraffe and, with good fortune, lion resting in the shade.
After a final morning game drive, the journey continues towards the coast, arriving at Diani Beach by the late afternoon. The rest of the day is free to settle in, with the first swim in the Indian Ocean and dinner at your beach resort.
A full free day on Diani's white sand, with the resort's pools, water sports and calm, reef-protected lagoon available for the whole family. No activities are scheduled, allowing you to set your own pace after the safari days.
A further free day at the beach, with the option to add a snorkelling or dolphin-watching boat trip, a visit to the Colobus Conservation centre, or simply more time on the sand. Your guide can arrange any add-on activities the evening before.
Depending on your flight time, enjoy a final morning at the beach before being transferred to Ukunda airstrip or Mombasa for your onward or international flight.
