Overview

Your safari at a glance

This four-day private safari is designed for travellers who want three distinctly different national parks without repeating the same landscape every day. Amboseli opens the journey with elephants, wetlands and Mount Kilimanjaro views. Tsavo West then changes the mood completely with lava country, rocky hills, springs and dense bush. The final safari night is spent in Tsavo East, where wide horizons, red soil and dust-coated elephants create one of Kenya’s most recognisable wilderness scenes. The route can start and end in Nairobi, or the final day can be adapted toward Mombasa, Diani or Watamu when required.

Itinerary

Day-by-day safari plan

Day 1

Nairobi to Amboseli – Kilimanjaro Plains & Elephant Country

Leave Nairobi early in the morning in your private 4x4 and travel southeast across the Athi-Kapiti plains toward Amboseli. As you approach the park, the landscape opens dramatically and Mount Kilimanjaro begins to dominate the southern skyline whenever the weather is clear. Arrive at your lodge or tented camp around lunchtime, check in and take time to settle before the afternoon game drive. The first safari session focuses on Amboseli’s open plains and permanent wetland systems, where elephant families move between feeding grounds and water. Buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, hippo and numerous waterbirds are also commonly encountered. Your guide uses the late afternoon to position for soft light and possible Kilimanjaro photography before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 2

Sunrise Amboseli – Transfer Through Lava Country to Tsavo West

Begin before breakfast with a final Amboseli sunrise drive, giving you another opportunity to photograph elephants and Kilimanjaro before cloud often builds around the mountain. Return for breakfast, check out and drive east toward Tsavo West National Park. The terrain changes from open savannah into darker volcanic soil, lava fields, rocky hills and thicker bush. After entering Tsavo West, enjoy a game drive en route to your lodge, watching for elephant, buffalo, giraffe and predators. Depending on route conditions and timing, visit the Mzima Springs area to see clear spring water emerging from the Chyulu Hills system and to explore the surrounding riverine habitat. Continue through the park in the late afternoon and arrive at the lodge before dinner.

Day 3

Tsavo West to Tsavo East – Springs, Hills & Red Elephants

Take an early game drive in Tsavo West before breakfast, concentrating on wildlife corridors around the lodge and recent predator sightings. After breakfast, leave the rugged western sector and travel toward Tsavo East. Crossing into the eastern park produces another striking change in scenery: the horizon opens, the vegetation becomes more expansive and the soil takes on the distinctive deep-red colour for which Tsavo East is known. Have lunch at the lodge or camp, then head out for an extended afternoon game drive. Elephants frequently appear coated in red dust, while giraffe, zebra, buffalo, antelope and lion may be encountered across the broad plains and seasonal river systems. Finish the day near sunset and return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 4

Final Tsavo East Game Drive – Nairobi or Kenya Coast

Start with a final early-morning Tsavo East game drive, when temperatures are cooler and wildlife is often more active. Your guide revisits productive water points and open plains while making a final search for elephant herds and predators. Return for breakfast and check out. The standard itinerary then travels back toward Nairobi with a lunch and comfort stop en route. Travellers continuing to the Indian Ocean coast can instead request a final transfer toward Mombasa, Diani or Watamu; the exact routing and any extra transfer cost are confirmed before booking. The safari ends with drop-off at the agreed hotel, airport or coastal transfer point.
