This short fly-in itinerary is designed around travellers who want to see two of Kenya's signature landscapes without long road transfers between them. Scheduled light-aircraft flights connect Nairobi, the Masai Mara and Amboseli, so almost all of your time on the ground is spent on game drives rather than in the vehicle. It works well as a stand-alone long weekend safari or as an add-on before or after a Kenyan coast stay.
A short scheduled flight from Nairobi's Wilson Airport lands you on an airstrip inside or bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve within about 45 minutes. You are met by your guide and driven directly into an afternoon game drive on the way to your camp, with the balance of the day spent looking for lion, elephant and, depending on season, the wildebeest migration. Dinner and overnight at your Mara camp.
A full day in the reserve with morning and afternoon game drives, broken by lunch and rest at camp during the warmest hours. Your guide adapts the route to recent sightings, whether that means following a pride of lion, watching elephant herds move across open plains, or waiting near the Mara River during migration season.
After a final morning game drive, you are transferred to the airstrip for a scheduled flight to Amboseli National Park, connecting via Nairobi or directly depending on the day's schedule. On arrival you are met and driven to your lodge for lunch, with an afternoon game drive across Amboseli's swamp-fed plains, where large elephant herds move against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro.
An early game drive makes the most of Amboseli's clearest skies, when Kilimanjaro is most likely to be visible without cloud cover, before returning to the lodge for breakfast. Mid-morning you are transferred to the airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Nairobi, arriving in time for an onward international flight or additional nights in the city.
